Carvedilol

A beta blocker for high blood pressure, heart failure and angina.

Clinical information

Common uses

high blood pressure
heart failure (with other medicines)
preventing angina chest pain
helping prevent heart disease, heart attacks and strokes

Common side effects

feeling sleepy, tired or dizzy
cold fingers or toes
feeling sick or being sick
diarrhoea

Cautions

do not stop taking it suddenly
may not suit people with asthma, lung disease or low blood pressure
do not drive if you feel tired or dizzy
alcohol can make dizziness worse

Interactions

other blood pressure-lowering medicines
heart rhythm medicines such as digoxin or amiodarone
diabetes medicines, especially insulin (low blood sugar)
NSAIDs such as ibuprofen or naproxen
cold and nasal congestion remedies
asthma or COPD medicines
