Carbachol

Eye solution used during surgery to constrict the pupil.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • producing miosis (small pupil) during eye surgery
  • limits eye-pressure rise after cataract surgery

Common side effects

  • corneal clouding or swelling
  • eye inflammation or pain
  • blurred vision
  • flushing, sweating, stomach cramps, headache

Cautions

  • caution in heart failure, asthma or peptic ulcer
  • caution in overactive thyroid, urinary obstruction, Parkinson's disease
  • vial stopper contains latex — allergy risk
