Calcipotriol

A vitamin D-based ointment or lotion for plaque psoriasis.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • plaque psoriasis of the skin and scalp

Common side effects

  • itchy skin, rash or redness
  • pain, burning or stinging where applied
  • psoriasis getting worse

Cautions

  • do not exceed the maximum weekly amount — can raise blood calcium
  • do not use on your face
  • skin may be easily irritated by sunlight or UV treatment
  • keep away from flames — it can catch fire

Interactions

  • vitamin D and calcium supplements
  • some diuretics, such as indapamide
  • digoxin and other heart rhythm medicines

Pregnancy: not usually used — effects on the baby not known
