Clinical information

Common uses

  • progressive, metastatic medullary thyroid cancer

Common side effects

  • diarrhoea
  • mouth soreness (stomatitis)
  • sore, red hands and feet
  • weight loss and reduced appetite
  • feeling sick and tiredness

Cautions

  • can cause gut perforations, fistulas and severe bleeding
  • raises blood pressure — regular checks needed
  • impairs wound healing — stop before surgery
  • jaw bone damage (osteonecrosis) can occur

Interactions

  • strong CYP3A4 inhibitors — dose reduction needed
  • strong CYP3A4 inducers — dose increase needed

Pregnancy: avoid — can harm the unborn baby; use effective contraception
