Cabazitaxel

A chemotherapy infusion, given with prednisone, for advanced prostate cancer after docetaxel.

Clinical information

Common uses

metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer, after docetaxel

Common side effects

low blood counts (neutropenia, anaemia)
diarrhoea
feeling sick and vomiting
tiredness and weakness
constipation and poor appetite

Cautions

deaths from very low white cells — frequent blood counts needed
severe allergic reactions can occur — premedication given
severe diarrhoea can be dangerous — rehydrate and treat
not with severe liver problems

Interactions

strong CYP3A inhibitors (e.g. ketoconazole) — avoid or reduce dose

Pregnancy: not established for women — can harm an unborn baby
