Budesonide

A steroid preventer inhaler for asthma and COPD.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • asthma (preventer inhaler)
  • chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

Common side effects

  • oral thrush
  • dry or sore throat
  • hoarse voice

Cautions

  • not a reliever — cannot treat an asthma attack
  • rinse your mouth after use to prevent thrush
  • do not stop suddenly without medical advice
  • high doses long term can affect adrenal glands and bones

Interactions

  • HIV medicines such as ritonavir or cobicistat
  • other steroid medicines (creams, tablets, sprays, drops)
  • antifungal medicines such as itraconazole

Pregnancy: can be used safely — keep your condition well controlled
