A tablet for high prolactin levels, acromegaly and Parkinson's disease.

Clinical information

Common uses

high prolactin (hyperprolactinaemia) and prolactin-secreting tumours
acromegaly
Parkinson's disease

Common side effects

feeling sick
headache
dizziness or lightheadedness
tiredness
vomiting

Cautions

not with uncontrolled high blood pressure or heart valve disease
heart valve and tissue scarring can develop — monitoring needed
can cause low blood pressure, especially on standing
do not use to stop breast milk after birth

Interactions

alcohol — can worsen side effects
dopamine blockers (e.g. metoclopramide) — reduce its effect
strong CYP3A4 inhibitors — avoid
other ergot medicines — not recommended

Pregnancy: usually stopped when pregnancy is confirmed — specialist advice needed
