Brimonidine Tartrate

Eye drops that lower raised pressure inside the eye.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • open-angle glaucoma
  • ocular hypertension (raised eye pressure)

Common side effects

  • allergic, red or itchy eyes
  • burning sensation
  • dry mouth
  • blurred or disturbed vision
  • raised blood pressure

Cautions

  • not for babies and children under 2 years
  • caution with severe heart or circulation disease
  • keep the dropper tip clean — contamination risk

Interactions

  • blood pressure medicines and cardiac glycosides (blood pressure may fall)
  • CNS depressants (additive sedation)
  • tricyclic antidepressants
  • MAO inhibitor antidepressants (risk of low blood pressure)

Pregnancy: only if benefit outweighs risk
