Bisoprolol

A beta blocker used for high blood pressure, angina and heart failure.

Clinical information

Common uses

high blood pressure
heart-related chest pain (angina)
heart failure (with other medicines)

Common side effects

headaches
feeling tired and weak
cold, numb or tingly hands and feet
dizziness from low blood pressure
feeling or being sick

Cautions

do not stop taking it suddenly — condition may worsen
may not suit people with asthma or breathing problems
care needed with diabetes, low blood pressure or kidney disease
fasting is not recommended — can affect blood sugar

Interactions

flecainide (heart medicine)
clonidine (blood pressure medicine)
glaucoma eye medicines
painkillers such as ibuprofen
amitriptyline (antidepressant)
alcohol — increases risk of low blood pressure

Pregnancy: can be taken — you may be offered extra checks
