Bicalutamide

A hormone therapy tablet used with other treatment for advanced prostate cancer.

Clinical information

Common uses

metastatic prostate cancer, combined with an LHRH analog

Common side effects

hot flushes
pain (back, pelvic or stomach)
weakness and tiredness
constipation or diarrhoea
feeling sick

Cautions

can cause severe liver injury — liver tests needed
not for women; must never be used in pregnancy
breast swelling and pain can occur
blood sugar may need monitoring with LHRH treatment

Interactions

warfarin-type blood thinners (monitor INR closely)
midazolam and other CYP3A4 drugs (levels may rise)

Pregnancy: must not be used — not indicated for women
