Betaxolol

Beta blocker eye drops used to lower raised pressure inside the eye.

Clinical information

Common uses

  • chronic open-angle glaucoma
  • raised eye pressure (ocular hypertension)

Common side effects

  • temporary eye discomfort

Cautions

  • not with slow heart rate, heart block or heart failure
  • can be absorbed and act like an oral beta blocker
  • can hide low blood sugar signs in diabetes
  • can mask signs of an overactive thyroid

Interactions

  • oral beta blockers (additive effects)
  • catecholamine-depleting drugs (additive effects)
  • adrenergic psychotropic drugs (additive effects)
