Bendamustine

An intravenous chemotherapy (alkylating drug) for certain blood cancers.

Clinical information

Common uses

chronic lymphocytic leukaemia
indolent B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma after rituximab

Common side effects

low blood counts (anaemia, low platelets, low white cells)
feeling sick
vomiting
fever
tiredness

Cautions

lowers blood counts — infection risk, counts monitored
severe allergic and infusion reactions can occur
tumour lysis syndrome can cause kidney failure
severe skin reactions — stop if they develop

Interactions

CYP1A2 inducers or inhibitors (consider alternatives)

Pregnancy: can harm an unborn baby — use effective contraception
