Common uses

  • preventing acute rejection after kidney transplant
  • used alongside ciclosporin and corticosteroids

Common side effects

  • constipation
  • feeling sick
  • stomach pain
  • headache
  • high blood pressure

Cautions

  • prescribed only by transplant/immunosuppression specialists
  • given in facilities with full laboratory and medical support
  • not for people allergic to basiliximab
