Clinical information

Common uses

newly diagnosed low-risk APL, with tretinoin
relapsed or refractory APL

Common side effects

feeling sick, vomiting, diarrhoea
cough and sore throat
tiredness and fever
headache
fast heartbeat

Cautions

can cause life-threatening differentiation syndrome
can cause fatal heart rhythm problems (QT prolongation)
serious brain effects (encephalopathy) reported
arsenic is a human carcinogen — monitored for second cancers

Interactions

QT-prolonging medicines
medicines causing electrolyte abnormalities
medicines that can harm the liver

Pregnancy: avoid — can harm the baby; use contraception
