Clinical information

Common uses

presumed fungal infection in febrile neutropenia
cryptococcal meningitis in HIV
Aspergillus, Candida or Cryptococcus infections when standard therapy fails
visceral leishmaniasis

Common side effects

chills
feeling sick and vomiting
low potassium
rash
raised creatinine (kidney tests)

Cautions

anaphylaxis reported — infusion stopped if severe reaction
kidney function monitored
infusion reactions (fever, chills) are common

Interactions

other kidney-toxic drugs (more kidney damage)
corticosteroids (low potassium)
digoxin (toxicity from low potassium)
flucytosine (increased toxicity)
azole antifungals (possible resistance)
muscle relaxants (effect enhanced)
