Common uses

thick mucus in chronic lung diseases
pulmonary complications of cystic fibrosis
paracetamol (acetaminophen) overdose antidote

Common side effects

mouth soreness
feeling sick and vomiting
runny nose
drowsiness
chest tightness

Cautions

can trigger wheeze — asthmatics watched carefully
loosened mucus may need suctioning if cough is weak

Interactions

mixing with other drugs in a nebuliser not established
