Liopropoma africanum

Liopropoma africanum has previously only been reported once from the Maldives, by Randall and Taylor (1988), based on a specimen collected by Randall, Shiham Adam, and Anderson from an area of broken coral at a depth of 35 m at K. Maniyafushi.

Dull red brown. 5 darker body stripes with pale narrow interspaces. Second inter-space brightest. Stripes becoming yellow on head. Caudal peduncle yellowish, fins pale yellowish.

habitat and biology
Lives that are situated fairly deep on coral reefs are typically found in the hidden areas of caves and crevices.
distinctive characters
The dorsal fin is divided, with 14 pectoral rays, typically 6-13 gill rakers, and the third dorsal spine being the longest. The fleshy edge of the corner and the ventral margin of the preopercle have 12-16 small pores, and the caudal fin is slightly emarginate.
