Corythoichthys haematopterus is of little interest to aquarists, and was previously recorded as C. intestinalis in the Catalogue of Fishes of Maldives, Vol. 1, page 144.

color
Light yellowish grey. Body with dark bands comprising small longitudinal lines, sometimes spreading on to dorsal surface. Caudal fin usually light red.
Frequently seen on sandy reef inclines, they usually congregate in small clusters.
distinctive characters
The dorsal fin typically has 23 to 33 rays, the trunk has 16 to 18 rings, and the tail has 32 to 37 rings. Usually, 14 bars are formed by groups of stripes or reticulations, and the superior trunk and tail ridges are discontinuous. The lateral trunk ridges are straight and end near the anal ring, while the inferior trunk and tail ridges are continuous.
