The species Chaetodon oxycephalus is very similar to C. lineolatus, however, the latter has an unbroken eye band. Neither of these species are suitable for domestic aquaria due to their large size.

Ground colour white, yellow posteriorly. Black spot on nape not connected to the black eye bar. Broad black crescent extends from base of posterior dorsal spines to caudal peduncle, barely continuing onto anal fin. Thin vertical black lines on sides.

habitat and biology
Typically found in pairs, these creatures feed on coral polyps and sea anemones.
distinctive characters
The dorsal fin has 12 spines and 22-24 rays, the anal fin has 3 spines and 18-20 rays, and the pectoral fin has 14-16 rays. The body depth is 1.7-2.0 times the standard length.
