The White Remora (Remorina albescens) is likely to be quite common in the Maldives, yet it is rarely seen by divers or fishermen as it typically resides in the mouth cavities of Manta Rays. This record was based on a specimen taken from a Manta Ray caught during an offshore fishing survey on November 26th, 1988.

Manta rays (family Mobulidae) are usually associated with attaching themselves near the mouth, in the mouth cavity, and in the gill chambers.
distinctive characters
The dorsal fin has 17-22 rays, the anal fin has 21-26 rays, the pectoral rays are 18-21, the body depth is 7.5 in standard length, the head has a sucking disc containing 13-14 laminae, and the pelvic fins are narrowly attached to the abdomen.
