habitat and biology
Typically found perched on black coral or gorgonians, usually in depths deeper than 30 m, this species mainly feeds on both benthic and planktonic crustaceans.
distinctive characters
This species has a dorsal fin with 10 spines and 13 rays, an anal fin with 3 spines and 7 rays, and a pectoral fin with 14 rays, of which the lower 5 or 6 are unbranched. Its body depth is 4.4-4.6 in standard length, and its snout is extremely long. Additionally, there are 2 or 4 cirri from the membrane near the tip of each dorsal spine.
