Head and body pale irridescent pink. Back with 9 indistinct cross bars. Caudal fin pale rosy, the lower margin white-edged. Pelvic fins and axillary scales white. Dorsal and pectoral fins rosy.

habitat and biology
This species lives on the seafloor, inhabiting sandy and muddy areas from 8 to 110 meters deep. It feeds mainly on crustaceans and small fish during the day.
distinctive characters
The dorsal fin has 10 spines and 9 rays, the anal fin has 3 spines and 7 rays, the pectoral fin has 2 unbranched and 13-16 branched rays, and the body depth is 3.0-3.9 in standard length. The pelvic fins are moderately long, reaching to or short of the anus, and a line drawn upwards from the posterior edge of the sub-orbital reaches the dorsal profile at about the origin of the dorsal fin. The caudal fin is deeply forked.
