habitat and biology
This species is found in both pelagic and oceanic habitats, typically at depths of 200 meters or more. It feeds on a wide range of fishes, crustaceans, and cephalopods.
distinctive characters
The first dorsal fin has 8-9 spines, the second dorsal fin has 16-18 rays followed by 4-6 finlets, the anal fin has 1 or 2 compressed spines, 12-14 rays and 4-5 finlets, and the pectoral fin has 15-17 rays. The body is moderately elongate and slightly compressed, with a caudal peduncle featuring a large keel flanked by two smaller ones and a single, distinct and wavy lateral line.
