A specimen of Heptranchias perlo weighing 4.2 kg was caught by bottom trawl in 240 m near a Thoddo on August 22, 1983 by the Norwegian research vessel Dr. Fridtjof Nansen, as reported by Stromme in 1983.

habitat and biology
Benthic species, which can be found on continental and insular shelves and upper slopes, typically inhabit depths between 27-720 m. However, they can also be found in shallower waters close to the shore, down to 1000 m. Ovoviviparous, they usually give birth to litters of 9 to 20 young.
distinctive characters
The head has seven gill slits, a very narrow snout, and large eyes. It has a single dorsal fin and large comb-like lower teeth with a few short cusplets but no serrations on the inner edges.
