The genus Dendrochirus differs from Pterois by having the pectoral rays connected almost to their tips, which makes them favoured by aquarists, although their dorsal fin spines are extremely venomous.

habitat and biology
Typically found in shallow waters, especially in lagoons to depths of 35 m.
distinctive characters
This species has a dorsal fin with 13 spines and 10-11 rays, an anal fin with 3 spines and 6-7 rays, and a pectoral fin with 17 rays. The pectoral fins are only slightly longer than the head, and the rays are joined by a membrane except for short tips; there are no filamentous rays on the pectoral fin. Tentacles are usually present above the eyes.
