Triangular butterflyfish

Chaetodon triangulum is sometimes classified in the genus Gonochaetodon, differing from C. baronessa Cuvier from the Western Pacific only in caudal colouration. As it is a coralivore, this species is not easy to maintain in an aquarium.

habitat and biology
Typically inhabiting shallow waters between 2 and 12 m deep, this species is often found in close proximity to branching corals, which it feeds on.
distinctive characters
This fish has a dorsal fin with 11 spines and 23-26 rays, an anal fin with 3 spines and 20-21 rays, and a pectoral fin with 14 rays. Its body depth is 1.1 times its standard length, and its dorsal and anal fins are elevated posteriorly. Its snout is small and pointed.
