The closely related species Canthigaster janthinoptera, C. jactator (Jenkins) from Hawaii, and C. punctatissima (Günther) from the Tropical Eastern Pacific, are small pufferfishes (or tobies) that benefit from their repelling skin toxin, providing them with some freedom from predation.
