Brown dorsally on head and body shading to whitish ventrally with small pale blue spots on body and basally on caudal fin. Small dark brown spots on lower side mixed with blue, and blue lines radiating from eye. Numerous close set small pale blue spots or irregular lines on cheek.

habitat and biology
This species is commonly found in shallow reef areas, usually in the lower parts of the surge zone, down to a depth of 10 meters. It is an omnivore, consuming both algae and a wide range of benthic creatures.

This species has a dorsal fin with 11-12 rays, an anal fin with 10-11 rays, a pectoral fin with 16-17 rays, a ridge of skin mid-dorsally, a conical and attenuate snout, and a slightly rounded caudal fin.
