habitat and biology
This species can be found in a range of habitats, from reef flats to reef edges. Its diet is incredibly diverse, consisting of live corals, benthic algae, sea urchins, crustaceans, other benthic invertebrates, and even small fish.
distinctive characters
The fish has a dorsal fin with three spines and 24-28 rays, an anal fin with 20-24 rays, a pectoral fin with 12-14 rays, a third dorsal spine of moderate length, no groove in front of the eye, and second dorsal and anal fins that are not elevated anteriorly. The caudal fin is slightly rounded.
