habitat and biology
This species of shallow-water outer reef fish can be found at depths of up to 10 m, and sometimes they form large groups when they feed. These schools are so large that they can overpower the damselfishes that are trying to protect their patches of algae.

It has nine spines and thirty rays on its dorsal fin, three spines and twenty-eight rays on its anal fin, two spines and fourteen rays on its pectoral fin, and one spine and five rays on its pelvic fin. Additionally, the first dorsal fin and anal spine are very short, and the caudal fin is emarginate.
