Abudefduf septemfasciatus is similar to A. sordidus, but lacks the black spot on the base of its caudal fin. The species' name is derived from the seven stripes on its body.

habitat and biology
This species inhabits rocky shorelines that are exposed to the force of waves and shallow reefs that reach up to 3 meters in depth. Its primary source of food is algae.

This fish has a dorsal fin with 13 spines and 12-14 rays, an anal fin with 2 spines and 11-13 rays, 17-19 pectoral rays, a body depth of 1.7-1.9 in standard length, a compressed body with large scales, an operculum and preoperculum that are scaled, opercles that are not serrated, and a lateral line that is not continuous.
